Best Time to Visit Chongqing HeiShanGu

1.🏆 Summer (July – August): The Peak Season.

• Pros: Escape the brutal city heat. Play in the water.
• Cons: Crowded on weekends.

2. 🍂 Autumn (September – October): The Most Beautiful.

Pros: Colorful leaves, fewer people, perfect hiking weather (20°C).

How to Get to HeiShanGu

📍 Distance: 110km from Jiefangbei (Approx. 2 hours drive).

Option A: Public Transport (Complicated)

1. Bus from Nanping Transport Center to Wansheng (2 hours).
2. Local bus from Wansheng to Heishangu North Gate (40 mins).
3. Transfer bus to South Gate (30 mins).

• Verdict: Only for those with high patience and Chinese skills.

Option B: Private Transfer (Recommended)

💡Since this is a full-day trip involving a lot of walking, having a comfortable car waiting for you at the end is a lifesaver.

• Itinerary: Hotel Pickup (8:30 AM) – Heishangu South Gate – Hike Down – Pickup at North Gate – Return to City (6:00 PM).

Smart Route to Visit HeiShanGu: South In, North Out

This is the most important tip in this guide. The valley has two gates: South Gate and North Gate.

• ❌ The Hard Way (North to South): You hike UP the mountain.
• ✅ The Smart Way (South to North): You enter at the South Gate and walk DOWN the valley along the river.

If you take a public bus, it usually drops you at the North Gate (Tourist Center). You then have to pay for a transfer bus to the South Gate.

• Solution: Book a Private Car. The driver will drop you at the South Gate and wait for you at the North Gate.

Top Highlights to Look For

1. The Floating Bridges (浮桥): Wooden pathways built right on top of the stream. You literally walk on water for kilometers.
2. Carp River (鱼跳龙门): Look into the clear water; you will see thousands of wild fish.
3. Wild Monkeys: Keep an eye on the trees!
